I've been told that anything other than an LV compliant (there's another acceptable version but I can't remember it right now) is inviting disaster. An Edge programmer helped me smoke one transmission, I'm not willing to roll the dice on this one.

Does anyone else have any experience using Mercon/Dexron in a 5R110?

I am running Valvoline Max-Life Dex/Merc. It is LV and SP compatible confirmed by both the label and a call to them. I was able to pick it up at AutoZone for $15 per gallon. Did 3 drains and fills with the last one being a swap to the 08 pan and filter setup along with the epic solenoid upgrade. Not one problem with it since I have done it and it shifts much better now since I have done that.

Don't believe the Autozone guy that will say Lucas will work since it is in their system as Ford SV compatible. A call to Lucas confirmed my fear, it's not compatible whatsoever.

Mercon LV for the Win.

Unless he's got a built/rebuilt trans, that is what the manual/ford calls for. I mean you can use whatever you want in your truck but I know my stock 5r110 will only see SP or LV.
