Turbo swap
Just wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are for swapping an 03 turbo into newer trucks. Have seen where some guys are doing that. Also I was wondering why some 6.0 trucks seem to have a lot more whistle out of the exhaust than others. I have a silverline exhaust turbo back but does not have as much whistle as I would like. Didn't know if there was something I could do to make it louder or not. Appreciate any info.

I just did the swap last Saturday.
So far, I have noticed a slightly quicker spool up, and much smoother spool. And running the same tunes (will be rewritten and track tested this weekend) I have already seen 5#s more boost. The 03 lets a larger volume of air in at the higher RPMs also. Before the swap, I was tuned at no more than 24#s max boost, I am at 29 now, and should see about 34ish when rewritten. I am also studded on my engine. AND, I get the really cool, and LOUD, jet whistle now as I am straight piped turbo out.. The whistle comes from the exhaust vanes, 10 on an 03, 12 or 13 on an 04, and 15 on the 05s and up. Hope that helps.

Here is a link to a quick vid of my swap, before and after, with a comparision of the turbos. Enjoy!

Mines an 04 and I am getting about 36 PSI when the 6 gun is turned up. I had mine straight piped at one time and at higher rpm's it sounded like a big block gas motor. Couldn't handle that crap!!

Higher boost doesn't always mean more power...my best times were run at a max of 24. That is one of the great things about custom tunes on a SCT.
36#s is pushing the threshold limits.Eric at Innovative explained to me one night about higher boost vs lower, unfortunalty I cant recall enough of it right now to be thorough on explaining it. |

DKR, does it seem to run better on the butt-o-meter? Do you recall the part # for the pedestal? How much was it?

I would be interested in knowing why thwy run better at lower vs. higher boost levels. When they run right, they were between 22-25 from the factory.

How did you come by your turbo? Meaning, what's the easiest way to get ahold of a 03 turbo? |

I saw about 28 max when I was stock, so I was seeing less than stock after tuning, and that was on my Xtreme Street and my Xtreme Race files. ![]() EDIT: I PMed Eric this thread. Last edited by DKR; 02-28-2008 at 06:41 PM. |
