Question Coolant change when bulletproofing

So i'm installing my BPD oil cooler kit this weekend due to a 30* delta. My question is when I drain the coolant from the lower radiator hose, will enought drain out to put some CAT ELC in there or do I still have to flush it out. I have Ford gold in it now. Will mixing a little of that in, like whats left in the block affect the CAT coolant? Will pulling the t-stat and runing water from a hose through it work? Or do I need a bunch of distilled water? Thanks guys.

Since you are doing the BPD kit when it is back together you will need to run 24 gallons of distilled through it to clean out all of the old coolant and then add 3.5 gallons of concentrated ELC. I wouldn't be a bad idea to do a complete flush with Restore and Restore Plus though. My flush writeup is in the 6.0 Tech Files section for reference.

How important is it to flush the coolant during the install? The only thing the coolant will now run through is the EGR cooler. I Plan to swap over to CAT EC-1 soon but the kit really taped me out if you catch my drift. At 25K on the truck I didn't plan to get into the oil system this soon. Can I just add some more gold to replace what I take out and call it good for a few months?
