Thumbs up New Superchips Microtuner for the 2006 6.0L

Continuing on their goal of serving diesel enthusiasts with first-to-market product, Superchips is now shipping its 2006 Ford Powerstroke Max Microtuner, part number 1706. Like our entire line of Powerstroke products, the 2006 model offers unparalleled horsepower and torque gains, dramatic improvements in drivability and throttle response, and enhanced shift quality and timing. No need to downshift while towing again, Superchips’ towing specific calibrations will provide more than enough power to get over that hill, tow your boat or haul your ride down to the track.

And with a 10 minute, no-tools required, installation – POWER HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER.

This plug and play stuff is all new to me....so my question is....which do I order for my 2005 Super Duty 350 Crew Cab, Harley edition? The Super Chips 05 or 06? Is the 06 an updated model of the 06? Will it work on my 05 truck?

I had a Dodge before and I am flat impressed with the Fords performance over the Dodge. Of course the new trucks fuel mileage sucks. How much worse will my mileage be with a Super Chips?

I'll be using it more for towing my Gear Box. I am wonder what it will cost? Recommend any online sites to purchase it? How will I know if I am getting an 05 or a new 06 if applicable?

Thanks
Jim

You will need to order a 1704 for the 05 model. The 06 trucks have a later version flash on the ECM and that is what the superchips tuner is going to alter. I picked one up on ebay for $289 ($110 rebate). Most of them are going for $400 and I would not pay that much as there are better things out there and even better ones on the way in the near future.

Thanks for the reply ScottyTom! The suspense is killing me. You hinted at better units. Were you still talking about SuperChips. If not what are they? Just want to do this once. I put a SE Tuner on my bike and I am not too impressed. Was told by the dealer it would get rid of my popping on decel. It didn't, said I should switch to SE exhaust but a friend of mine with the same set up except for the exhaust also has popping on decel. We both put our bikes on the dyno. Got a little more snap but we both still pop on decel. So you can understand now I am nervous about a SuperChip mod.

Well with the bike I don't know for certain. I'm guessing yours is injected? I put a KromeWorks exhaust and a 45mm flateslide carb on mine and it runs like a champ. The better units for the truck would be the Banks Six gun w/ downloader and the edge Juice Platimum w/attitude monitor. I purchased the Superchips tuner for under $300 so that will suit me for a while instead of paying over $600 and having to install an exhaust to run the max settings. There are also about 10 other manufactures out there but from what I can find these are the most reliable and safe. Keep in mind you can always get more power but you will sacrifice reliability. The torque conveter we have will have some problems supporting the power at the max levels of these units so if you get serious you're looking at $1300 for a heavy duty unit. There are plenty of options out there, my goal is to compete with the Dodge SRT10 in the future and the Superchips just won't cut it but it will give something to play with for a while and pay for itself with the fuel saving. I have the 05 Harley edition also, definately worth the extra cash!

Smile

I just want to let you guys know that I installed the Superchips tuner on my 05 and it put a smile on my face. The power comes on right from the get go and the lag is finally gone. The power continues till 4000rpm and then she grabs the next gear. The firm shifts alone are enough to give it away that it's not stock. I'm pretty impressed as the superchips tuner is still about 45 hp less than the banks and edge, ect. but the power does extend out and suposedly is not going to damage the tranny if you stay within the tow limits.

The tow setting is around 35 peak over stock, the economy is about 70 with power coming on around 2500rpm. The performance is a just a few more horses with some added torque and the power starts at idle. I just got back from the second test drive and the truck seems to be getting over a 4mpg improvement with some full throttle stop n go's. I also have the AFE stage II kit so next is an exhaust system. Hopefully I can sell my old Blazer and maybe get an ATS converter and water/methenol injection. I still can't believe injecting windshield washer fluid will give me 70HP. I'll have to do a little more research on that one just to make sure it doesn't do any damage. What is also surprising is I installed one of those magnets that goes on the fuel line and I noticed the truck pulling a bit smoother and seemed to be quicker. The EPA test averaged 11% improved efficiency so it's a good deal for $30. I'll shut up now I guess.
Later,
Scott

Shoot - 4mpg, good deal! I've heard great things from people who run the water/methanol injection (as long as it's done right) and it's supposed to be better for the motor. I HAVEN'T heard about the magnet over the fuel line though - you've got me curious. I'll have to check that out. Thanks Scotty!

It is called fuel master http://www.fuelmaster.com/ What it does is seperate the clumps of hydrocarbons in the fuel creating more surface area for the o2 to mix. This makes a cleaner more effiecient burn. I have seen them for years in the harbor freight tools cat and figured it's time to check it out.
