Push rods worth it?

Hey. Wondering everyone's opinion on if I should upgrade my pushrods. Is it a worthwhile expense or will it not improve longevity or reliability. And when I look at the pictures of them for sale they are in sets of 8... is that just the pick or do they come in sets of 16? I am getting 155/stock injectors and FICM fixed and tuned with a atlas 40 tune. Doing head gaskets, blue spring, BPD oil cooler and a SCT tuner to be first used when/if I put it on the dyno.

I bought a set of Smith Brothers 3/8in pushrods and I can say that they were worth every penny of $287 shipped. They came as a set of 16. The stockers do not even come close to comparing how beefy these pushrods are. I am totally convinced that I will break a rocker arm or collapse a lifter before one of these b!tches bend. Basically, if one of these bend, I'll have bigger problems than a bent pushrod for sure.

Exactly right! When you look at high performance engines these days that are built by people who really know what they are doing, you'll likely see BIG push rods.

I suppose it is worth the dollars. I am not pushing big power but it will be one less thing I have to worry about. Where did you purchase your rods? The only place I see smith brothers rods is on riffraffdiesel but it doesn't give any specs on them.

I ordered mine strait from Smith Bros. I just ordered the "stock" 6.0 length spec, which I believe is 9.850 but don't quote me on that.

Did you have to modify the headgasket holes due to the bigger rods passing through them?

Nope. The 3/8" pushrods slide right in with no modifications at all.

the ones on riff raff are the ones you want and no you do not have to modify the head gaskets

Quick question. Do you guys know any one who has bent push rods? I ask because Ellerton's 1000hp truck uses stock pushrods IIRC. The only guy I have seen bend push rods did so in a 7.3 while downshifting on a steep grade towing over 15k lbs.
