5 Inch Exhaust Question

I searched the forums for this question, but couldn't find an answer. I'm wanting to do a 5 inch exhaust to my '04, but I can't straight pipe the truck, as I can't afford to pay the fine for not having a cat...Has anyone done a 5 inch exhaust and kept the cat? I'm looking to replace the down pipe as well when doing the exhaust.

Well you could do a cat back, that would give you a 5 inch kinda...and then for the down pipe I'm not sure....

Why waste the money in that case?
Or you could hollow the cat.

I didn't mean to keep the stock cat, but to buy an exhaust system that still allows the use of a cat. But I haven't found a cat that has a bigger diameter so I can run the larger exhaust.

And there you have it. No use doing a 5" system with a 3.5" cat in the system.

Sorry I must have not worded what I was trying to say correctly. Now I should be able to buy just about any stainless steel turbo back exhaust and be able to use that cat correct?

Yes it would probably require some cutting but would fit. Might want to look into a full magma flow system as it might be cheaper, you can pick up a full exhaust for the price of that cat

Well the cheapest 5 inch I found was at XDP but I still have to add the cat and it brings me up to $770ish..
