I replaced the cap and it didnt change.. the coolant is at the low level.. as for studs are the arp studs good enough or would it be best to just put H-11 studs?? oh it could not be the oil cooler or the EGR cooler is bad??

well if the egr cooler is blocked off then that would eliminate that possibility. I think most people run arp's. I rarely hear of h-11's.

If the EGR was previously clogged it could have fouled the oil cooler, so even if the EGR was replaced, unless the oil cooler was replaced also you'd still be losing coolant due to extreme oil temps...

Or am I completely off track?

no need to go h11's, the ARP's are more than strong enough to handle the job. main advantage of h11 is supposedly that they can be reused and retorqued more often.

check this out.....

I've had my truck to the dealer three times now for the same problems you are having. Each time they fix something then charge me the $100.00 deductible. first it was the egr cooler needed to be cleaned, still puked. Then it was, replace the egr cooler $100.00 still puked. Then it was the degas bottle, not under warrantee, $230.00 still puking. Finally I passed by a local diesel shop and brought it in and let them look at it. They have this nifty little vial type device with a conicle rubber stopper at the bottom. This fits snuggly into the degas bottle and is filled with liquid. you start your truck and if it boils over(mine did in about 10 seconds) then it's one of two things bad egr cooler or head studs. Next, they add a blue liquid and if it turns green then supposedly you have problems meaning bad head gaskets or worse warped heads. I've never heard anyone on here mention this type of test to check for head studs so maybe this will benefit you. Yes, mine also turned green. I have about 10k left before I hit the 100k mark, so I will be bringing it back in. Now, you would never know there was a problem as my truck works like I just drove it off the lot, but I'm constantly adding coolant.

I have never heard of that but it would be nice to give that a shot.. Would the dealership be able to do that, because there are not really any diesel shops around here..

not too sure about the dealer. You would think they would but I'm thinking any decent mechanic would be able to do this test

great test, but definately check the coolers, even unplugging the egr valve does not keep pressure out of the coolers, flow goes from exhaust thru coolers to motor if i am correct. turning off egr valve or unpluggint it keeps it closed. does not stop pressure, just stops it from flowing thru to the other side, they (coolers) can become clogged and cause a flash boil

Scott.
My buddy uses those tests when he goes to check out a used vehicle. I don't know why the dealers don't use them more often. Unless of course they were after your $530to begin with.
