The MTW Stage 1 has been proven to be a RELIABLE and COST EFFICIENT upgrade over stock and Pmax turbos. They spool quicker and flow more air than a Pmax will. I couldn't tell you HP for HP how much more the Stage 1 will make than the Pmax because it really depends on the truck running it.

There is a guy on here who has over 100,000 miles towing HEAVY in the last year with the MTW Stage 1. I have a Tweaked Billet Stage 1 (one off custom turbo) on my truck and it is a SERIOUS increase in power over the stocker. I will be upgrading to a larger turbo in the hopefully near future as I have 215/100cc injectors coming to replace my 175/stock injectors in the truck now.

the Powermax has some definite turbo lag I am dealing with.. im wanting an MTW stage 3 late this year but considering going to a MTW stage 1 in the meantime and selling my pmax.. It may just be my truck (I have an 05 and seems there are quirk issues with 05's ) or so I have been told

Yes it is safe depending on if you have studs or not and how you drive it.
