STC HPOP in late '04

I'm in the middle of buying a few more parts to make my truck more reliable. One cheap mod to get that I read on these forums is an STC update kit, 4C3Z-9B246-F. Now I also read that in late '04, these trucks don't require one, (I'm pretty sure my ride is a late '04 version). Did I just waste $44 bones please?

Only 05+ pickups and late 05 excursions have the failure prone STC. The only way you would have one is if a later engine was installed.

Basically, if you have an aluminum HPOP cover, and an IPR that screws into the HPOP, then you've got an STC
