Superchip vs. others

Looking to put a tuner on my 06 F350.

This is my first Diesel and I'm kinda new to the arena.

Having a hard time deciding what to go with for a tuner.

I've heard good things from a couple of people about the superchip. That it is quick, easy, and they like the performance.

I'm not looking to push the limits of performance of my truck. Just get some fuel economy and a little extra power.

Performance wise, the only thing that I'm hoping to change is the lag you get when you need to punch it across an intersection.

But again, just looking to get as much fuel economy as I can and some 'safe' horsepower?

I know asking what the best tuner is is probably like asking what the best beer is.

But does anyone have a short synopsis of what the best tuners are and what you'd recommend for someone who just wants a little 'safe' horsepower and fuel economy?

I don't plan to do any other mods from stock right now or in the forseeable future.

Thanks,

Nik in Milwaukee

i think what you are looking for is really a cold air kit like AEM, AFE, K&N, AIR RAID, GMS, MAC, BBK, etc.

What kind of performance increase (mpg and hp) should I expect with those?

I'm not against a chip. I just don't want to run the high HP gains.

I was just thinking superchip micro tuner at a low level for some noticeable hp and fuel economy.

I just don't want to run anything that significantly decreases the useful life of the engine/transmission or other components.

Do even the low end settings on chips/programmers endanger longevity?

I'm with Jwiger on this one, if you aren't looking for big HP increases, then I would just go with an intake. Freeing up your exhaust would help too, but I know you said you didn't want to do many more mods. The chip is awful expensive just to try and increase fuel economy...

I'm not so much concerned about the cost of a chip at all. Just don't want to do anything that would damage the truck long-term.

And some extra power would be great too.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Superchip. That's what I use and it works great. I leave it on the performace tune and the drivability is smooth and responsive. The power is great for the money and the shifting is just about perfect. It helps with the turbo lag but you're not gonna be able to jump out accross intersections unless you work both feet. Let us know what you decide and how you like it.
