Tuning and Monitoring a 6.0
I'm lost in all of the info out there. I just ordered an OBD2 adapter. Will Torque be an adequate monitor? I want a tune for Economy and better shifts. I am usually empty or towing about 6000 Lbs. Considering cost, should I get a Livewire or just a tuner to go with Torque?

sct with custom tunes and edge insight is pretty slick in my book, most folks will likely agree with me on this

Tuning and Monitoring a 6.0
Your gonna get different answers on what to use as a monitor. It's a matter of personal preference. The Torque app will be fine for monitoring, you'll have to buy separate EGT and Fuel psi, because Torque don't support external sensors.
For tuner, since your going with a separate monitor (torque app), you can look into the SCT SF3 or X3. The SF3 comes with canned tunes and can also hold 3 custom tunes. The X3 will only hold 3 custom tunes. Once you try custom tunes, you'll almost never use the canned tunes again. A new SF3 will run you around $379 not including the custom tunes. Custom tunes run about $100-$160 for a 3 tune package, depending on who's tunes. You can buy a new X3 for $425-$429 with 3 custom tunes included in the price. Quicktricks Automotive sells the X3 with unlimited tunes for $425, that should give you about 11 tunes. Sent from AutoGuide.com App |

First off, dhanna6powerstroke, I love the Sig. Second, Torque cost $20 with the ODB2 adapter. If Torque cannot do fuel PSI and EGT, than I may get a quad pod with gauges and probes off ebay for $250 shipped. I like the pillar pod gauges. Is there anything else the EDGE can do that this can't? Data logging?
I was not expecting the cost of tuning to be so high. It makes me wonder if its even worth it. I originally wanted to tune just to make shifts firmer and save fuel. I am happy with power output the way it is. I want my 6.0 to last me a good 10 years or so. Are my expectations out of reach? With that note, I also planned to install a spool in place of the EGR. I realize the argument of blocking the EGR vs a full delete is very polarized on both sides. If, however, I install a spool and stop EG from entering the manifold, and the P0401 (EGR Insufficient flow) comes up, are there any other consequences than a CEL? Is there any limp mode or anything other than an annoying light to worry about until I get a tune? Last edited by BlazerOutback Powerstroke; 02-17-2013 at 05:33 PM. |

I deleted the egr on a 06 for a guy that hauls travel trailers all over the country he didn't want a tuner and didn't care about the cel.He just passed 300k still has original head gaskets(amazing) the only thing i noticed was his truck doesn't build boost much over 22 to 23psi not sure if this is because of the cel but he said it runs and tows just as good as before.
