SCT tuner questions

hey guys im thinking about getting an SCT SF3 power flash ford programmer, ive never "chipped" a vehicle before and i want to start getting into tunning my truck up, im not sure if getting that chip would be optimal for my truck, i have an 06 f250 6.0, i saw a package i could get that has preloaded settings for performance and economy and it also comes with a EGR delete kit, im not sure what that is or how it will help, any help would be nice thanks!

Definitely a good investment, but you'd be much better off doing a search on the forum. Probably get more answers that way too

i would have no idea what to do with the custom tunes though, is there a program that they have for your computer and you do it yourself? i just feel that i dont know enough to start tuning it myself, unless the process is pretty self explanatory :/ kinda new at this whole deal

its very easy to do just a little research on here or google and you can find out what to do very easy to get a custom tune from a custome tuner of your choice already loaded to the device

Here is a "how to" from Stealth Diesel, they are one of the Org vendors.

Custom tuning with an SCT is very easy. You get your SCT device, get the strategy number off the truck, contact one of the many GREAT tuners for a 6.0, (I personally recommend Matt @ Gearhead Perfomance, he tuned my 6.0 and I now run his tuning on my 6.4 LOVE his tunes) they email you a file, you load the file onto the SCT then load it from the SCT onto the truck. Super easy, and super fun! You will have a whole new truck! Just make sure to get some type of gauge setup. Analog or digital the most important things to watch are Exhaust Gas Temp (EGTs), trans temp (if you hav an auto) and bost pressures. Some guys run three gauges on the A pillar but a lot of us (myself included) run a digital monitor like the Edge Insight CTS/CS, SCT Livewire, or something similar. These offer many paramaters to be monitored from one device. In my opinion, these are the best bang for the buck.

The digtal gauges are a little more expensive than analog gauges but can monitor 10+ parameters from a single device.

IMO, analog gauges can get way more expensive than a digital monitor if you had to match PID for gauge.

Before running a tuner, you need to check the health of your motor. This is where a monitor comes in, you may find out that the money you want to spend on a tuner will go for getting the motor healthy for normal driving.

Things to consider about owning a 6.0L

Write Up: Monitoring the 6.0L PSD.

Then if you need to dig into the motor for repairs found by the monitor, you can replace/install the upgraded OEM and aftermarket parts that will help prevent breakdowns.

Write Up: Bullet-Proofing the 6.0L PSD.

That is correct. It is called the Infinity, and you can check it out HERE. Once you have this, there will be no need for any other gauges, diagnostic equipment, or programmers. It does all of this.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.
