Hide the coolant?

Does the coolant level in these trucks ever go up and down? Also how much coolant would you lose from a standard filter change? I swear my truck is screwing with me. I thought I was losing coolant somewhere and was having an anxiety attack about the potential issues and cost. Absolutely no symptoms at all besides coolant loss, truck runs awesome. So I add some gold coolant and mark the reservoir with tape. Check it later and there's now more f-n coolant in there than when I put in the day before. I'm confused!
