4" exhaust = hard starts

Hey all-

I just installed the 4" turbo back exhaust last week....only thing I've noticed aside from the sound difference (I have no EGT gauge yet)...is rough starting. Any temp, but only in the morning/when the engine is cold. Warm starts are fine.

It'll turn over and run, but its sloppy and rough when trying to idle...It'll rev up no problem. Takes probably 2 minutes before it idles smooth.

This is independent of tune- I've used stock, and 3 others to see if there is a difference, no such luck, all have tough idle when first started

on a side note--how long does a 6.0 generally take to get warm and "up to power" It seems I gotta pull/drive a good mile or two before the truck is up to power, just seems to hate life until its warmer. Normal I presume?

I can't think of any reason a 4" exhaust would cause hard starts. More than likely something else is wrong to cause the hard starts, maybe glow plug relay? It takes a while to warm up in the cold. I let my truck idle for about 5 or 6 minutes and then take it easy for about 4 miles. By that time it is up to operating temp.

i guess hard start is a poor description.......how about....just crappy idle.

Idled fine before....still took a while with the stock exhaust to get cookin with power.

seems lopey at idle til warm...i guess no truck runs smooth when cold though

Thats strange, mine was the exact opposite, with the stock exh. mine took a while (like 5 mins.) to warm up and smooth out. But after I installed the MBRP exh. it took much less time to smooth out like around 1 min. or so

Sounds more like injectors to me. Not a thing to do with the exhaust except that the exhaust would make it more noticible due to the sound.

All good thoughts. This is probably where a diesel shop would be fantastic. hahaha.

I dont think it is something I need to worry about...yet. There is no noticeable pattern to it, or when idling when warm, so...I guess i'll wait until it is more noticeable then do something.

Fuel and oil filter has been changed recently fuel within the past 4k oil within 1k....I think I want to swap to amsoil, but thats another topic.
