Starting fresh
Hey guys, new to the forum coming from the cummins world. My brother is trading his chevy 1500 gasser for a 2003 6.0 stroker. Wanting to start adding power so I figured this would be the best place to come for suggestions. Truck just a had a full crate Suncoast tranny put in, it's had head studs put on and some crappy box tuner. So other than the tranny shes pretty much stock. Where should we start?

Get a monitor first and if everything else looks good pick up an SCT tuner and get some custom tunes, there are several good writers that can help you out. Just seek with the search box and ye shall find. Then its a matter of your budget and goals

You need a way to monitor these 6.0's with more than just pillar gauges. You need something that plugs into your OBD2 port and can monitor all the sensors and FICM voltage and other things electronic. Most use a Edge Insight or SCT Livewire. The new Livewire TS would be my vote since it holds tunes and monitors all in one.

Yea ive heard SCT from some buddies. How much is the SCT livewire monitor and tunes gonna run me? And what tuner do you guys recommend? And also what would be the next step after that?

I can get you the SCT Livewire TS 5015 for $599 plus the ride. Custom tuning varies by tuner and how many tunes you purchase. Some offer deals where you get say 3 tunes for $150 or a single tune is $60 for example.
What kind of power goals do you have for the truck? If your looking to make BIG power then obviously your going to need larger injectors and a bigger turbo. If you stay with a VGT about the only person in the game that is doing ANYTHING good for the 6.0 with turbos is Adrian @ Mad Turbo Werks username here is madpowerstroke. If you want to run any injector sized over a 175cc than you will also need a fuel system upgrade as the OEM fuel pump isn't capable of supplying the injectors with the demand for fuel they require under WOT. Obviously you will also want to get a open free flowing exhaust and a EGR delete wouldn't hurt if it isn't already done, but basically it goes the same as the Cummins world, bigger sticks and more air equals more power. Just how much power you want to make depends on how much money you want to spend. |

Gonna go bigger turbo forsure, prolly a little jump up in injectors. Im gonna say the goal is somewhere around 550hp, and still be able to tow maybe 5 to 8k maybe once a month or so.
