Not sure about the canned tunes, but with custom tunes you can have any safeguards installed that you like. Custom tuning allows for stronger safer shifts, governors how much boost you are putting out (I see less boost on my Race tune than stock), the options are limitless.
The biggest thing is getting a good reputable tuner to write the files for you. I would say call or email Innovative Diesel.
Majority of people on here will recommend a SCT, next biggest decision is who to write your tunes.
