04 stroke performance Q?
New to the forum thing but have some Q? I have a 04 Stroke with the 6.0 w/ 5 speed i have decided to go with the Bully Dog triple dog w/ outlook monitor over the livewire, the transmission setting really don't matter to me and kinda afraid with the unit being new on the market . truck is in the shop for head gaskets so i will be getting new head bolts from factory. I will be putting a cat back system so i don't void warranty. Question is will the new stock head bolts hold up to the hp the tuner will be putting out? And will the truck handle the Crazy Larry mode?

WELCOME ABOARD THE ORG!!
I have Bully Dog w/ Outlook installed. I ran w/o outlook for 3-4 months and glad I made that change!! My onboard PC kept trying to take over and over ride the programmer. Not Since Installing the outlook. I do Like the fact that I am quite race ready with just a flip and IT'S ON LIKE DONKY KONG!!! Haven't quite felt the need to use the Crazy Larry Tune yet. Hope this helps!! |

If the dealer is installing new head studs, you should bounce for some high strength ones out of your pocket. I wish mine would go so I could do the same thing. It's a nice piece of insurance, and most everyone will tell you it's the way to go. I'm not dogging the Bullydog cause I haven't run it. I can tell you that I ran the HyperPAC and had some tranny issues, so I have seen both sides, at least compared to the HyperPAC. The SCT does actually reprogram the tranny for firmer shifts, not just defueling the engine like a lot of tuners do. If you get custom tunes, there is no reason to be scared of the livewire. It's the same tunes just punched into a different tuner. I don't know anyone with an SCT that doesn't like the way it shifts.

When i was looking for programmers for my 04, i called a shop not to far from hear and they had Bully Dog and Edge. I just got my truck and i asked about Bully Dog w/ Outlook and i asked what was the most prominent problem with it and i had 3 people tell me stretched head bolts and i turned away from it since. Now i run SCT and i LOVE IT!!!! I had Superchips on it at first and didnt like it at all. Just 2,000 miles after i bought the truck, i was towing my tractor in stock form and stretched the head bolts. I say if you have an 03 or 04 and head gaskets let go, get studs. its cheap insurance and you'll be glad you did it. just my .02
