Basically you take off the grill and cut a hole in front of the intake and out a screen in front of it (plenty of write ups on it) in order to draw more fresh air in and keep bugs and debris out. Some people claim a noticable gain, I for one didn't notice any difference.

There are about 50 different threads on this topic. Here's a video. There are also other write ups about it. Near the top right of your web page, check out the search function. It'll help you find a lot of info quickly relating to what you want to know. I use the search function all the time and I'm usually able to find answers to my questions. I have done it. I didn't notice a gain. Its sucks cool air from the outside instead of hot engine bay air. I see that as a positive.

Besides now I can say I have "ram air" on the truck...pizz's off the Diesel nut's at work when all they have is cool air....

It's a free mod that gives the engine fresh cool air. Why not do it. Sounds great with an aftermarket CAI too. What's not to like.

My brother in-law had that on his truck and during a blizzard going down the highway his air cleaner warning light came on because snow was filling up his air cleaner housing. LOL. I still think its a good mod though but wish someone would figure out a setup to have the air intake coming from the cowl area in front of windshield where the wiper mechanism is like I had with my old '89 7.3

I have been in torrential rain storms at 70mph and heavy snow without issue. A screen cover over the hole works wonders.
