Mass Air bypass?

When I bought my 04 6.0l the guy gave me a part he said was a mass air bypass that he never installed. What would be the purpose of this?

I bought one of those pieces of crap. It was called a Boost Builder then. A small plastic cube with a stock looking connector and a long wire.

Long story short, if it's a boost builder/fooler, throw that POS in the trash and move on.

sent from a dumb guy with a smart phone

if its what i think it is, you plug the factory harness into one end, and the "bypass" or "fooler" harness into the stock mass air sensor. it supposedly tricks the computer into raising the boost or something. i wouldnt trust it. had one of those back in the day on a 1987 Supra turbo from HKS called a "fuel cut Defender" that tricked the ECU so you could put a manual boost controller on it and go above factory boost levels without the car freaking out and cutting fuel to protect itself. not very safe in my opinion because it doesnt compensate with extra fuel. i removed it when i bought the car. i would toss it.
