Engine rebuild ?

The last five days have been hell. I bought a 2006 F550 rollback from a guy in PA on Fri. and on the way home the bottom end came apart. You could imagine how sick I was, just spending 22k that I scraped together to get this truck to feed my family. I spent $1,000 bucks in towing just to get the truck down to MD. I ordered a short block from PMM for $2,899.64 that includes the core, and the shop is going to charge me $2670.00 plus to install it. Now the question I have for you guy's is what do I need to do to make this truck super reliable for daily towing? I told the owner of the shop that I wanted to know what he saw that needed to be replaced when they tore down the motor. As far as aftermarket stuff I'm not sure what to get....I'm new to this. I know I need gauges for monitoring and some kind of tuner, but what should I get asap to help keep this thing running for a long time to come? Thanks, Kyle

The "needs" are well documented here but I'm sure a list will start in this thread. It would help to know how many miles and/or hrs on the truck.

since the heads are going to be off, new Ford head gaskets and ARP studs would be on the very top of the list. Heads will also need to be checked by a machine shop. If this were my truck, I would not sacrifice either of these items. Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

VERY much agree!

Also, EGR delete, new oil cooler, SCT tuner, gauges, updated blue fuel pressure spring, updated turbo oil feed and drain tubes, exhaust manifold gaskets. I'm sure I missed a couple items but those above are the VERY important items

The guy did some things to the truck. DGR delete is done and he said the studs were done we will know soon enough. Exactly what gauges are the most important to get and where's the best place to get them?
