coolant filter install question

I have a xtreme diesel coolant filter kit. The kit is pretty standard with other kits but came with a 2-3 " piece of large diameter heater hose. I'm wondering what it is for because most other kits just advise to cut heater hose and insert t. I looked at the directions and it wasn't real clear. My only guess is remove the hose before the valve and use the hose to attach the t to valve so not cutting is required. Does this sound right or am I way off.
