K&N FIPK II Design

HI Everyone, I have the K&N FIPK II kit on my truck its a 06 PSDand i have heard all the horror stories about it dusting the turbo and engine so i pulled it off to make sure it wasnt letting stuff in and there wasnt a spek of dust in the tube.....The thing i dont like about this kit is the design of the heat sheild...The bolt from the bracket that connects the heat sheild to the u shaped plastic piece below the filter has scrated the filter....I took the heat shield off and im gonna keep it off because i dont think its really helping anyway...if you have this kit has it done this to your filter or is there anything else about it you dont like?

Bad idea removing the heat shield. Thats what makes it a "COLD air intake. Your performance will suffer getting all the hot air from the radiator..

i know that....it just seems its not very good so im gonna make one out of stainless.....what do u think it would be best to make it out of? stainless ok and maybe spray the hot side with the high temp stuff...that would reflect the heat wouldnt it?

I made my own from some thick plastic,plastic won't conduct heat like metals.I made it high enough to go all the way to the hood.
