hypertech max energy vs. SCT
I was just about to order a SCT tuner for my 04 6.0 when I read a post from a guy that picked up 4 mpg's over what he was getting with his sct. With fuel prices only getting worse, MPG's are important to me. Is the hypertech max energy only about MPG's or are there perfomance gains with it also?

In the hands of the right custom tuner there's nothing the hypertech can do that the SCT can't unless the hypertech is altering the FICM programming some way.

put the crazy thoughts out of your head now before you get carried away.
the hypercrap will make more power than stock. but the best money you can spend on your truck is in the form of SCT> do you ever wonder why you see SO MANY THREADS LATELY STATING BRAND X VERSUS SCT.?? it's never BRAND A VERSUS BRAND C OR BRAND F VERSUS BRAND W.. everyone wants to be compared to SCT, because sct is the king of the hill. |

I agree that SCT has a very loyal following here. The reason I asked the question is because of a member here going from an SCT to the new Hypertech. He admits the SCT makes more power but the Hypertech gets better fuel milage. By a wide margin too (19 vs. 23). I'm not sure about the rest of you but I'm more concerned about getting better economy vs. beating a mustang GT......... I have a 68 vette for that

I'm willing to bet that a program is out there for the SCT that would give you similar economy or even better since you would have so much more control over the transmission. Just a thought.

I went from 13 mpg to 18 mpg by going with the SCT and blocking off the EGR cooler. I'm betting the SCT is chiefly responsible for the mpg increase...

Currently I'm getting 17 cruising at 75 and 13.5 towing my travel trailer. So I'm not too sure how much of an improvement I can really expect. The only mods I have is a 4inch turbo back exhaust with cat delete. IMHO the biggest reason for poor fuel milage is the blunt front end of the truck creating such a drag. Especially with it setting up so high. Maybe I should say poor, what do the gassers get lol.............

My 04 was getting 13.4 stock, and 19.0 with my hypertech max energy on level 3. And got a pretty good power gain too
not too bad with a 6" ligt on 35" mudders
