turbo advice needed

Im having a hard time keeping my egt's down, I can keep them down if I really ease into the throttle and watch the boost but if I mash the pedal off a stop I only build 20# of boost and the egt's go up super quick. Ive got an edge cs race installed and 4" turbo back exhaust, w/o a muffler or a cat.(It has a really nice bark) I can hit 29#s if I roll into it easy, so I dont think I have an air leak. Do I need to clean my stock vgt? Is some back pressure needed to make the stock turbo build boost correctly? Or do I go to a conventional turbo? I'm running the stock air intake and filter, I dont think that's the issue though. Im running the programmer in lvl 3 currently but can get the egt's up in econo and towhaul too.(it just takes a bit longer).

I would ditch the Edge for tuning and just turn it to level 0 or stock and use it only for gauges and get a SCT custom tune. I would try this before I went the turbo route. JMO.

What are you considering high EGT's? Your egts can get high on hard acceleration (1500* on a race tune), the key is not to hold them there for a long period of time. That is when you can cause damage.

Check your local Craig's list, eBay and on this site in the "for sale" section. I've seen SCT's as low as $100.

What to look for when buying used SCT for 6.0

I've used my edge cts tuning with no adverse effects and I've seen boost of 32psi on stock turbo when I hooked to the sled using that tuner but not the high EGTs that you're reporting here. My boost is a tad high so I may have an issue somewhere but EGTs isnt one of them. That being said the sct custom tunes are great but I don't think it's really a tuning issue? But I'm no expert on tuning I would try cleaning your turbo which really can't hurt anything it's just kind of a pain in the rear but I need to clean mine as well!
