Mine idles a 600rpm, in cold weather it will idle up to 950 sometimes. I installed a high idle switch which when the E-brake is set in park it will idle up to 1200 when I flip the switch. The reason for doing this is to prevent wet stacking (carbon build up). IMO anytime you're going to idle your truck for 10 minutes or more its a good idea to have a high idle.
