First of all, BIG SHOUT OUT to the guys at BulletProof Diesel for installing my turbo for me. You may recall that I had a few "issues" in removing the PowerMax that they installed for me about a year and a half ago. It was totally my fault for rounding off that back bolt and I'm thinking that they took pity on me since I was having issues.
I got a call on Thursday that BPD had some time available on Friday to do the swap for me, but there was one problem - I had to work on Friday.

So I swapped trucks with my buddy and neighbor Brian... Which meant that I had to drive his Chevy to work!
So, my buddy Brian drove the truck back from BPD to the house and I think they (BPD) just left the 8k tow tune in it (for the PMax). The next day, I loaded my stock Looney (one that had all my personal tweaks but designed for the stock turbo) and we went for a drive. I wasn't really impressed. Having driven with the PMax, it was ok, but didn't seem to put the power down like I was expecting...

I was beginning to think that this was a waste of time and money...
After driving for a bit more and letting the PCM learn, it just seemed to get stronger and stronger.... I was like WHOA! The guys on the ORG are right... For some reason, it takes a little bit for it to learn, but once it does, it feels like a different turbo.
I have been monitoring the MAF sensor on my Insight CS and while I have NO IDEA of the airflow rating is on it, anything below 100 means that the turbo isn't spooled. The PowerMax simply lugs until it gets there, and once it does, it brings on the boost all at once. This turbo just keeps building and building in a much smoother application and makes the power available to you MUCH quicker.
It might be a touch less powerful than the PMax (which could be the tuning), but it spools VERY quickly and even when I deliberately stall the compressor, with a quick puff of smoke, it lights and off we go...

I will reach out to Vivian and see if she can whip me up a new Looney tune that is designed for this MTW Stage 1 turbo and post my results.
So far, despite my initial impressions, I really like this turbo. If it performs as well while towing as it has with these tunes (which admittedly weren't designed for it), I think this turbo will be a winner and a game changer for the 6.0L market.
