Which Tune combination?

So, my many of you know my truck is with Vince at IRP getting the heads machined, new OEM gaskets, ARPs, all updated fittings, updated turbo drain, remote oil cooler system, IPR's EGR, IPR high-flow coolant bypass and an AFe Pro dry intake.

The truck was running IDP Xtreme street with stock FICM tuning when it went in and now that I'll be studded, I'm thinking about trying something new. I already ordered the IDP FICM tuner (it's sitting in my desk waiting for the truck to come back) and will be running the moderate FICM tune.

I've heard a lot of great reviews about all tunes and tried IDP, I'm thinking of trying the SPD + with the IDP Moderate FICM tune. Anyone else running the aforementioned combo with a stock tubo/injectors and stock trans? I'm looking for something with smooth power thats very drivable for a DD with less of a lightswitch effect. My xtreme street would light up my 35" tires but I'd have to be near floored.

I can't say enough about spd w/early lock combined with hercules. Couldn't get an xtreme street that worked well with the gogo solenoid but never ran an ID tune with the ficm tuning. I have stock snail, sticks and trans.

Wow, hercules seemed too aggressive for my application so i went with IDP. I loved Eric's service so i wanted to stick with his FICM especially because i was mainly focused on the Tune Roll-Back. Good feedback though, thanks! What's a gogo solenoid?

If you are looking for a tune that doesnt have the light switch effect, I HIGHLY recommend the SPD w/early lock up. I have ran tunes now from TSD, Gearhead, IDP, and Quick Tricks. I REALLY like my IDP and Quick Tricks tunes the best now with my current setup but I am sure that will all change once I go get some live tuning done. For the Stock injectors and Stock turbo, the SPD w/early lock up was my VERY first "custom" tune and it was by far my favorite for Huge Smooth Power. I did have a slight shift flare from 3-5 but Chris was able to get rid of it and that thing would flat out fly and had like zero smoke. My Gearhead tunes were pretty much just as powerful and smooth (no light switch) but I just didn't like how Matt had the tranny shifting. It wasn't that it was bad but rather that the gears were just short shifting too much and it was in 6th with the converter locked at like 43 mph and the truck would fall on its face.

Again, from all of the research I have done with reading peoples' reviews on their favorite tunes, from my own personal experience with ALL 4 most popular tuners, AND based on what you say you are looking for; I highly recommend Chris @ TSD. I know he is not doing any tuning right now since they are all moving and what have you but he should be starting back up here either next week or the following.

JMO and hope it helps.

I've been wanting to try the SPD with my PHP FICM tuner. I've been running Extreme Street that hasn't been modified since 08 and with the Hercules tune it has been an awesome DD setup for me with decent mpg.

What's the difference between SPD and SPDw/ early lock up?

I run Matt's SRL+ and the Hercules FICM tune in conjunction and it is BAD A**!!

Really I havent found a better combo. Now I do agree somewhat with the trans tuning from Matt... It does short shift and boy when it lugs into lockup it smokes like a freight train...

That is the only reason I have stopped running his tunes... T/C locks way too early and Smokes and won't get out of 6th unless I hammered it.

Send a message via Yahoo to Dave
To properly address this we need to know what you use the truck for.

I should also include that I run a 58v FICM from Quick Tricks with IDP's Mild FICM flash.
