Very high EGTs with Looney tune...
I ordered the custom Looney tune early last week and have been playing with it since. I bought it primarily for fuel economy and have seen a 1-2mpg improvement over stock in most areas (assuming I keep my foot out of it).
The only potential problem I'm seeing with it is extremely high EGTs when you get on it. During normal operations, I'm anywhere from 400-800* but as soon as I floor it, they shoot over 1000, and if I stay in it through 3rd/4th gear (up to ~65-70mph), I'm seeing 1500+*F! I'm very aware of the damage done by high EGTs and as soon as I see them go about 1200/1300*, I am backing off - I'm just curious what others are seeing with this tune. Is my exhaust too small (3" to cat, 4" catback) or is this tune just one that use can't use at WOT for any extended period of acceleration? |

I can see up to 1400* when WOT getting on the freeway, but will let out when the spedo stops moving..
![]() ![]() I just made a drive out of Indio and the grades there are pretty good and I could hit 12-1300 pretty steady all the way up the hill. At one point they went up to 1400 then without any throttle change they went down to around 1200... Maybe fan kicked in and cooled it off?? |

im running looney also and ill see 1300 at wot up to around 70mph. I have 4" turbo back no cat. if you loose your kitty you could probably loose a 150* on those egts

A 3.5" or 4" down pipe would help too. Those temps aren't going to hurt you for short periods of time. If you're going to drive to Roanoke like that it's a different story. All of the high HP tunes are going to run high egt's when your foot is to the floor. That's why they are high HP tunes.

steady 80 to 90 mph
What do you think of running looney at 80 to 90 mph steady?

I live in the same area, kitties go missing all the time for some reason. You could get the tune tweaked a little to help maybe. Have you checked the ic boots and up pipe flex joints? Might be a problem there causing airflow loss.

1500° isnt too bad imo, 1700 is my limit. Sent from my DROIDX using AutoGuide.Com Free App |

high egts
hey, where are you reading your temps and what kind of probes are you using.
im running probes on both exhaust manifolds, still stock, im seeing upto 1400* mbrp 4" exhaust turbo back, AFE intake, blade runner intake manifold. |

thats perfectly normal. I was hitting about 1450-1500 going down the track with the looney. Sustained temps are whats important, a short burst at 1500-1600 really isnt gunna hurt much.

could try opening up air flow in.. CAI, intercooler/elbow. plus i agree with opening ur exhaust.. free flowing will expel heat better
