Question Gauges, Code Reader, or Tuner?

Hi. This is my first post to the forum, but have been lurking for a while and reading lots of past posts.

I bought a 2003 6.0L Excursion a couple of months ago, and I would like to do two things to start. (1) Add boost and EGT gauges, and (2) get a code reader. I'm really not interested in changing the PCM programming at this point because this is my wife's car, and it's essential that I don't void the warranty.

I started reading the posts and found that some of the tuners will give me digital gauges and the ability to read codes. This is appealing, but if I get a tuner, I have to be absolutely sure that it will never set a code in the PCM that the dealer could use to void my warranty.http://www.coolsmileys.net/angry/nono.gif
:nono:

If I get a tuner, and never load a new flash, will it set a code in the PCM? It would be great if I could use it like this, as a monitor and code reader only.http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ima...umb%5B1%5D.gif

Thanks,
Jay

go with the sct and a set of gauges. the sct will read codes, and if you ever do want to up the power a bit, it can do that also.
there are ways to safely add power, and sct is the best way to do it.
it will almost be invisible after removal with the proper steps, but i dont see that you will be running anything hot enough to hurt your motor anyway from what you describe as your plans for the vehicle.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if the SCT tuner will set a code in the PCM if I never upload a new flash? This is essential for me.
