How bad are the Edge Evolution's

Here is the story, I am looking at a truck near me that is almost exactly what I have been looking for except.....it has a Edge Evolution in a pod on the dash. How bad are they for the 6.0's? I have a Edge Insight CTS already to check my delata's and also have a combusiton gas check kit to use to make sure it is in good shape. I was getting pretty excited about this truck till I saw that . Looking for some good advice about it since this will be my first diesel. Comments welcome, and thanks.

The truck is at a dealership so it is hard to say. I am having them pull the oasis for me. It looks to be in good shape but looks can be deciving. The carfax says it was registered as a commercial vehicle from 2006-2010 and then a private vehicle from 2010 till 2012. It is a lariat and does not look like it was abused.

Just drive it and see how it feels. If something doesn't feel right, keep on looking.

Alot of the problem with the common tuners is that people put them on, set it to max power and immediatley start hammering on the throttle. Even the sct custom tunes can do this unless you give the tranny time to relearn.

I agree! The evolustion is not the end of the world. It's not the best tuner for a 6.0 but not the worst. With any tuner if you beat on the truck, it will likely break.

I have a Edge Evolution on my truck...I love it, no problems. its not the most radical tuner in the world, but it has 4 tuning modes, i dont keep mine on the "hot" level 4 tune cause it sucks the diesel...all in all its a pretty good tuner

Like everyone said, drive it and feel it out. My only concern is the price, thats high (to me) for an 06. You can get into a 6.4 for around that price... I did

I'd sure like to know what trim of 6.4. That isn't terrible for a lariat with that mileage in my area. You should be able to pick it up around 22-23k. Just play the "it has a tuner and probably been hammered on more than it should" card. As the dpf stuff becomes more common, the 6.0 doesn't seem as bad as it once did.

I paid 25k out the door a year ago for mine with 42k on it. It was a bank repo, so that helped alot.

It looks like in the one picture of the bed that it had a B&W type hide a hitch in the bed. So the edge may have been use just for towing. i would take it for a long test drive or ask if you could haveit for a day and watch the number that the edge is showing. (fuel pressures & oil pressure/temp)

-fyi the 6.0L will get better better MPG's that the 6.4L any day.
