Tuner/Monitor issue....

Hey guys, I've been on the forum and reading over the last year since I've owned my 250(2006 lariat fx4) but have come across something I can't find by searching so I'm finally having to post!

I bought the truck from my uncle who bought it new. He had an edge system installed(i believe the juice) with egt and fuel pressure probes, intake, and a cat delete with exhaust system.....so there's some background.

now to my problem....the edge computer went out on me a month or so ago, the truck would just randomly shut off and I couldn't figure out the problem so I went back to the factory ecu plugs under the hood and the problem was gone.....so I'm assuming the unit is bad. After having the extra hp the entire time I've owned the truck I simply cannot drive this thing in basically a factory condition, plus I lost my monitoring ability.

My question is, can I use the monitor part of my edge system with the SCT x3 unit? Im assuming the SCT custom tuned by innovative will be a much better tune than whatever was on the edge anyway but I'd like to be able to use the edge monitor without buying another one. Anyone heard of the edge units just quiting like that?

Thanks in advance fellas!

Jeff

Jeff, welcome. Things break. As for using the attitude to monitor, I don't know for sure but if the stuff under the hood is removed back to stock I don't see why not. I would recommend considering selling the entire unit together and see if you can collect enough cash to get urself PHP's ficm tuner. It also monitors vitals using an edge monitor that they convert to their own personal software. Honestly, I would even consider the ficm tunes over the x3 initially if monitoring is of more concern. The cts is great for monitoring but for the same price you can monitor the most important pid's and get some power, better start up, and mpg's whereas the cts only monitors for $400...albeit it monitors more. For me personally, eot and ect were the most important plus fuel pressure.

Some people may disagree cuz the x3 w/custom tunes tunes the trans also but that's why I said if monitoring is of more concern the ficm tuner/monitor setup would be a route to consider.

Thanks Darsey. I wouldn't say monitoring is of more concern, more like I don't want one without the other. I don't want to put an aggressive tune on this sucker without monitoring whats going on, and I don't see the need to monitor without running a good tune.....I may be off base here, but thats where I stand.

I don't see a way to hook this edge monitor up without running the whole system(intercepting the ecu) and running the edge controller with has obviously failed.

Ok, so I found out I can trade in my juice platinum w/attitude to edge and get the CS for 179 or the cts for 239.....should I do that and just get a SCT3 with custom tune? or I could pay 150 for them to repair my juice platinum. Will i see enough power and mileage improvement with the sct over the juice to make it worth the extra expense?

1. Edge WON'T repair your old unit, been there done that. Why do you think they offered to trade it out?
2. Edge does NOTHING for the transmission, I have a $2300 charge on my VISA for the TorqShift I recently bought if you need proof.
3. I would bite the bullet and get an SCT Livewire that has a monitor and shop around for tunes.
4. Selling your Edge wouldn't be too cool knowing that its broke. Mine works fine, but I won't sell it because I KNOW it fragged my transmission.

I got my SCT on eBay for dirt cheap, then got a ScanGauge II and Auto Meter EGT. For a few bucks more than what I spent, I could have had a Live Wire, an EGT probe and a cleaner interior.

Thanks Karl. I had decided to trade it back to them for the insight CTS, so atleast I got something for it. I wouldn't have sold it without disclosing it needed to be repaired! Now just to spring for the x3 I suppose. Just gotta decide where to get it and who to tune it.

Thanks again
