cost of valvoline extreme blue 5w40
How much should I expect to pay for this stuff. So far I have only found one place that carries it. Carquest and they want $34 a gallon. Is that price in the ball park?
Thank you |

That is pretty high. Our local O'reillys has it for $25.99 a gallon.

$26/gallon is more like it. Think I paid $27/gal last time. Honestly, I would suggest Mobil 1 5w40 over the extreme blue because I guess the mobil 1 is in a better 'group' of oils and it's has less detergent in it or something. I read something along those lines recently from pgreenstv(sp). I'm switching to mobil 1 next change or if i can afford it some Redline 5w40.

How much is the mobil1 5w40? Maybe I should just switch to T6, it's on sale for $19.99 at autozone.

![]() ![]() I'll have to be more careful in the future. ![]() What I said was that Mobil 1, and Amsoil are made from Group IV (PAO) base stock which is a true chemically engineered synthetic motor oil. Most oils claiming to be full synthetics are in fact made from Group III (severely hydrocracked dino juice) base stocks with a little Group IV or Group V (Polyol Ester) thrown in for the detergent properties inherent to those oils. I believe that Redline is the best oil out there but at $45.95/gallon too high for most of us to consider. At less than $20/gallon T6 is a great budget alternative but I will continue to use Amsoil 5w40. Last edited by PGreenSVT; 04-25-2012 at 01:12 PM. |
