xcal 2/xcal 3/live wire/california Lots of questions
So im going to be ordering from diesel performance parts most likely but I need some help choosing.
So I have an 03 psd auto. For the tune I was looking at the xcal2 with ID tunes. But I also see they have livewire and xcal3. What should I get. Im not going to be making crazy numbers. The mods happening to this truck for performance is going to top out at an intake elbow, and full exhaust, and of course head studs when they go finally. My main goal is to gain economy, and every now and then stomp on it for fun. I would like it to smoke as that seems fun, or at least have a "smokey" tune for the times when messing around with friends. So my next questions is im in California. Can I put any exhaust on, and be ok. IM used to CARB crap here with my TA and it drove me nuts. Is it the same or different with diesels. Also should I do more than an intake elbow, or is that good (I know tons of cars have tons of CAI options but for alot of them the performance gains on them are nill) Thank you! |

The advantage of the Xcal3 is the larger screen that you can datalog directly on the unit and read. Plus you will have 3 standard SCT Strategy Flash tunes, and 3 custom tunes if you wish. 9 out of 10 programmers we sell for the 6.0l is a custom SCT from Innovative Diesel. Its what I run on my personal truck. You will enjoy them.
A nice inexpensive intake is the Quadzilla intake that now comes with the AFE Pro Dry filter element, but we carry all of them if you have any questions. Good luck and have fun! |

So XCAL 2 and gages seem to be just fine.
Any answeres to the exhaust and intake elbow questions? |

Where in cali are you........the above info is great info...and as far as the studs....i may be able to help you there....
My opinion is intake elbow's are a bunch of hogwash....not worth the money...as far as exhaust its tough to beat MBRP from any of the site vendors or Farmboy's diesel budget combo's... ud be better off spending your money for the elbow on a good AFE intake... |

We carry Intake Elbows. They are great for appearance, and they have a bung welded in for boost gauge, or drugs (water/meth or NOS). Alone they dont add any power. I thought maybe you were refering to an intake system.
Marc may not be a stud, but he has installed a few sets lol! |

![]() ![]() Talk with patrick here and he will get you hooked up with your stuff...and as far as installs go....if your close enough to me we just be able to work some stuff out ...i will say one thing for the intake elbows though....they might not add any power...but damn they look clean compared to the way most boost gauges do if you put your boost reading there....... |

as was said above, go with the XCAL3 and a set of gauges.
the money for the elbow would be better spent on the exhaust. elbow makes no performance gains, just looks good, and helps with egts very little, and spoolup slightly. the stock intake on your truck will support 500RWHP, so that's the last thing you should consider changing after everything else. |

I asked the same when I ordered my tuner. From what I remember the differences are that the X3 has more memory for larger datalogs and files for newer vehicles (6.4L). It will also store 3 canned tunes along with 3 custom tunes. Its probably more like the Livewire, but w/o the guages (uses same software & drivers). I went with the X3 but would have done just as well ordering the X2.
