RCD modded 68mm Powermax

Thinking about giving this a try. My truck with the Powermax/Batmowheel and 175cc injectors smokes like an absolute pig with everybodies tunes. It makes pretty good power but runs hotter than heck and I need more turbo to take advantage of the injectors. It is either the 68mm modded Pmax or a non-VGT and I don't want to go that direction yet.

If anybody has any feedback on this turbo I'd love to hear it.

Your experiences sound like what I saw and experienced with Madpowerstroke's durastroke turbo that is basically a 13 blade powermax. He even had the batmowheel and could run 1800F on a WOT run to 100mph. He is working on developing two larger VGT turbos but doesnt have them finalized yet. I would say that this 68mm powermax or Elite's Powermax-SSX or HO are your only options before you go non-VGT.

Thanks for the link Nate. That seems to have similar issues to what I have going on now. It would probably help clean things up once up on top of the turbo better but at cruising speeds in od on 2 lanes with a 50 or 55 mph speed I am only cracking 1600-1700 rpm. If I roll into the throttle at 1600 in od it smokes like a coal burning locomotive. If I hit any kind of grade as it lugs down it smokes harder and harder until at about 1300 it down shifts, takes off like a bat out he11, and lays down a smoke screen that James Bond only wished his Aston Martin could duplicate. As it is I drive it by watching the amount of smoke I'm laying down and forcing downshifts with the tow haul button. I'd like to get away from that if I can.

I suppose changing to 4.30's would help by keeping the revs up, and a higher stall converter would help too. I keep waiting for that friggin' lottery ticket to swing my way but it isn't cooperating.

whos tuning do you run daily? Raise the shift points a little in the tuning and hold out over drive until 50-55 mph. I like how mine hits OD at 45mph and at 45mph i can easy into it and make 10 lbs of boost with no smoke instantly (03 turbo)

Im sure regearing will really help you.

Check this thread out. This is a route I have been thinking of going. I am just not sure if I want to give up the VGT is all.

guinea pig? I researched the 68mm vgt real hard because it is suppose to be very good for 190cc which is what I want to get. Unfortunately there was not a lot of feedback except for RCD saying it was so great. The few people that did have them had problems with surging and almost everyone said forget about towing with it. It would be a great turbo if you get get the quirks worked out of it so we could get some real feedback from an unbias source

RCD and IDP have fixed the issue of any surging.

Wasnt that the only reason for not towing too much with it? thats great did they fix it through tuning or the turbo itself?

tuning. they only recommend running either RCD or IDP tunes with that turbo.
