degas bottle overflow/ suggestions
Okso here is the deal, the truck is an 03 6.0L with 84k on it, know i just replaced the cap on the degas bottle and am praying to god that fixes the overflow issue, however knowing my luck im reserved to the fact that this will either be a head gasket issue or an oil cooler issue, now obviously for head gasket i would go with ARP studs and stock gaskets, however if it is the oil cooler, i was wondering if there were any other less expensive options other then the bullet proof diesel oil cooler, and just for the record i have had the egr cooler replaced with the BPD oil cooler. any suggestions would be great, thanks guys

If you have access toa coolant system pressure test set you could hook it up and see if anything is blown, Do you have any guages?? Any DTC's??

no. i just have boost, have been meaning to get others but things have broken and that needed my attention and money first

what else should i have as far as gauges, egt, coolant temp, oil temp?

fuel pressure, FICM voltage are both good to watch. I just installed a CTS, A little pricey but it can monitor anything you ever dreamed of.

Wait. You replace the EGR cooler with the BPD OIL cooler?
Doesn't make sense. Also, make sure the coolant level is right. The old minimum is the new maximum. |

sorry, typo on my part, the bulletproof egr cooler is what went in. sorry. also i syphoned off some coolant down to a little below the min line, and i bought a new cap for the degas bottle, now it didnt overflow today, however we have some warm weather coming today and tomorrow so if it is going to act up i fully expect it to happen either today or tomorrow. i do plan on doing arp studs and an oil cooler upgrade at some point but ideally i would like to avoid it for a while because i have already dumped 4200 into the truck in the past six months so i reaslly dont want to dump any more into it as of yet

As far as the cts goes, is this just a monitoring device? and for things such as EGT do i need to install a probe or does this somehow monitor that through the obdII port? I was just going to go with traditional gauges over time but this seems like it might be the best bang for the buck and nice and compact as long as this can be used by itself without any other edge products because i tune my truck with an xcal 2

Ok gotcha
The CTS can also tune I think, but you don't have to. It can be just monitoring. EGTs need a separate probe, as the truck does not have one OEM. Most everything else is there IIRC. |

ok cool, i figured i would need the probe but it couldnt hurt to ask, praying to god that the cap was the issue, i mean i know im gonna have to do head gaskets at some point, i just dont feel like doing them now
