Do mufflers help at all??

My truck has been straight piped (4inch turbo back) for quite some time now but generally it is always loud. Either its whistling loud (below 2k rpms) or roaring like a lion (past 2k rpms). Cold starts are loud as hell too especially during high idle. I was wondering if i put a diesel muffler in place such as an mbrp or banks muffler if it would help at all.

The cat does soak up a little noise, but the muffler is what really does it. I say throw a muffler on it. It will for sure quiet down the whistle.

I have an MBRP 4" turbo back with a muffler, no cat, and it is the perfect sound level. It seems very quiet compared to when I run the straight pipe, but makes enough noise to make you smile at WOT.

i put a silverline on my sisters truck with a muffler and sounds pretty good. fairly quiet when just normal driving.. yet will give off some bark when you put the foot in it.. mine is straight piped and can be annoying at times.. but i have stacks on mine too

I have a diamond eye muffler and love it. In cab is quiet unless I'm on it. The whistle is quieter at idle but still nice sounding cruising the lots and such. I'm happy with it and wouldn't go any other way, especially With it being my plow truck, trying to sneak around at night when the clients are sleeping. Shhhhh

if you want to hear the turbo, don't run a packed muffler
