Tax Refund = Time for a programmer
Needs to be under $500. I've been looking at the Edge Evolution that comes with the dash pod and EGT probe which is $400 on ebay. Currently thats in the lead for me.
Any other suggestions? I need something that is safe for my transmission, I'm sitting at 195K miles and want to get as much life out of it as I can. Another note, I have the degas bottle cap issue, which from what I've read it related to EGR cooler crap. Should I get that fixed before a programmer? I plan on doing it regardless this summer though. Is it safe to run a few months with that? |

Edge is no good for your transmission. Get just the CTS or CS to monitor your engine. if everything checks out then get a sct with custom tunes. not as cheap a two in one but your wallet could thank you later if you find out you have other things wrong with your engine.

I spent less on my scan gauge II AND Auto Meter fuel psi/EGT gauges than an Edge CS/CTS monitor (Insight CS/CTS). I picked up my SCT X3 on eBay for dirt cheap then bought 3 Innovative tunes for $165 and 3 Gearhead tunes for $100. IMO, Edge and the required add-ons cost too much.

if you want something that is safe for your transmission then you should not be looking at edge.
the only tuner i would put on a 6.0L is a custom tuned SCT like any in here:6.0L Tuning + Gauge combo's that being said i would never run a tuner without the proper gauges. -Raul |

Listen to the above posts. Before you go spending all that tax refund, get a monitor solution!! You may just find out that you'll need the cash to fix issues with your truck.
As mentioned already, either a Edge Insight CS/CTS (monitor only) with the capability to read Fuel psi and EGT. Or the ScangaugeII with separate EGT/Fuel psi gauges. You need to check the health of your motor first. This link will help you understand some of the issues. Things to consider about owning a 6.0L Now, since the Edge Insight CS/CTS and ScangaugeII is only for monitoring, the best tuner for the 6.0 is a SCT with custom tunes. Sure you could go with the SCT Livewire or TSX, as a monitor and gauges in one package, but most who have used them, don't like the monitoring capabilities of them. The Edge Insight CS/CTS will monitor so much more. With that said, most prefer the Edge Insight CS/CTS or ScangaugeII for monitoring and the SCT X-3 with custom tunes for a programmer. Since you are experiencing issues with the degas bottle, it could be just the cap, or overfilled the coolant, or failed EGR/oil coolers, or headgasket failure. You really won't know until you have everything tested and monitored. Stick around and start researching and reading up before you go spending money. |

Yup! Get an Edge CTS to monitor and SCT with custom tunes. I just got my CTS and I love that thing. My SCT is on it's way!

Does the CTS read the ect and eot right from the start up after you plug it into the obd2? Meaning, you don't need the univ sensor input or any other sensor for the cts to display eot and ect? It just interprets what the factory information is into a digital number right?. Thanks.

I was in the same boat as you are now, refund coming in, and i really wanted the tunes!! Fortunately, before purchase, i asked for advise. Now i have better, smarter plans! Its not worth risking the health of our trucks just for some HP! Unless youre rich then its on! Good luck man and keep everyone updated on your choice!
