Just bought my first diesel

I just bought my first diesel. 2006 F-250. I bought the EDGE REVOLUTION programmer for it and was wondering, I do not have head studs but only plan on using the economy mode or tow mode. Am I safe or is head studs still required even though im not gonna use race mode?

Congratulations,
You have baught a wonderful gauge setup. Did you get the CS or the CTS?

DO NOT use it as a tuner because the "shift on the fly" tuners add HP but do not tune the tranny to receive that much power, leaving the owner with an unhappy/broken tranny soon after.
Buy a SCT tuner with custom tunes, your truck will love it and so will you!

But, like I said, the first thing a person needs to do on a 6.0 is GAUGES, which you just bought the most popular/universal piece of equipment to use!

as many people will tell you on this site. your motor can blow at stock. so i guess time will tell. if it does, atleast you can throw 5+k into it and fix it right.

Edge has a great set of gauges but there tunes may kill your trans. Get a coolant filter on ASAP to remove the casting sand that helps plug the oil cooler then after 5-7000 miles do a coolant flush need to know deltas the health of your motor.

I might sound stupid but by guages do you mean just use it to monitor my system and not use the economy or tow mode? Sorry but new to diesels and don't want to screw up lol.

Yes that is exactly what we mean.

dont use the tuner on any setting other then stock and use it as gauges for oil temp coolant temp, Boost PSI, Trans temp, FICM Volt, Fuel Pressure, and EGT temp.

For a tuner, research SCT x3 w/ custom tunes

If you can I would say send the Revolution back and just get a CTS or CS. Then take the money you get back and put it towards a SCT.

There is no such thing as a "Revolution"...
He probably meant "Evolution" which only has 2 types.

CS= smaller version w/buttons
CTS= 4" touch screen

OP: Which one did you get?

Yeah sorry its the Edge Evolution. I have been doing some reading on it and the version I bought says it adds transmission line pressure. Does that not mean its tuning the trans as well? Ya'll have to forgive me all this programming business is completely new to me. I do appreciate all the feed back so thanks everybody.

Did you get the CS or the CTS? The good thing about the Edge is that you can add a pyrometer and fuel pressure gauge to it, which is something you should monitor. I would say that you should be safe running the tow or economy tune without damaging your tranny. The Edge Evolution just boosts line pressures which will make the shifts firmer and quicker, but this is not true transmission tuning. However, if you are interested in custom tuning, which I agree is the best thing for the engine and transmission, you could send it to PHP and they will be able to tunr it into a Gryphon with custom tunes made specifically for your truck. Here is the link: Gryphon
