My dream is to send the Ex to destroked and run a 5.9 cummins out of an 06 and then put a built allison behind it... Im waiting to get the 6.0 bulletproofed and get a SCT with some custom tunes to see what the 6.0 can do though.. Im going into this with an open mind..
You mean you either were or are a true cummins guy. IMO there really is no such thing as a Dodge guy, or at least I have yet to meet one. Quote on quote "Dodge guys" buy a dodge for the cummins motor and that is it. It sure isnt because Dodge is known for making such a great truck but that cummins is/was a reliable motor. Every cummins guy (as I refer to them as) I talk to loves the cummins motor but hates the dodge truck. Just my observation.
IMO, buy the best whole truck and not just one best component. That is why I bought my Ford. I can tell you that a tuned 6.0 is straight up quick (about the closest thing to the throttle response of a gas V8) and even quicker when you stick in a little larger sticks and turbo. Sure it may not have quite the amount of torque that the cummins has but with about a 1.75 torque to horsepower ratio and the fact that it revs and spools very fast, it will just about run off and leave a dodge. I personally think that doing a good build on a 6.0 is a better/cheaper option than "destroking" a ford truck especially since we already have a great transmission IMO. Let's face it, a stock Allison isnt going to hold up to 500+rwhp stock. JMOs.
