Question: CEL on with egr delete and stock tune
If I return my truck back to stock will the CEL come on because of my egr delete? I do have the egr valve in place and plugged in. I have been running the stock tune for about a day and all is well just wondering if it will eventually come on. Thanks

Ya if u return it to stock it'll throw a cel. U could ask ur tuner for a stock tune with the egr function off. Probably give it to u for free

well mine is a 06 with the delete and my valve is plugged in and it doesn't throw a code when I drive it with the stock programming.

If you have a 06 on up truck and an EGR delete then it will cause the check engine light to come on. It won't do it right away, but eventually the PCM will detect no EGR flow and throw a code for insufficient EGR flow and illuminate the CEL. Earlier year 6.0's will log the same code in the PCM, it just won't turn on the CEL. The emission laws changed for 06 so any emmission related codes must illuminate the CEL. If you have a glow plug out on a 06 6.0 the CEL will come on. If the glow plugs aren't working right then you'll have excessive smoke on startup, hence it's emissions related.

That's good to know. The longest I had ran mine was about 2 weeks on the stock tune and it never came on so I figured it wouldn't.

It can take some time before the PCM will throw the code. Certain conditions have to be met and so many drive cycles before it will log the code. Eventually the code would have been logged and the CEL would have came on. The only way to not get it to come on on a 06 up truck is to disable the EGR function with a tuner, or get your PCM "backdated" to 05 programming. Supposedly PHP can do this but I have no experience with them. I just always install a tuner when doing a EGR delete on a 06 up truck.

Will it hurt to do the delete and run around with a CEL on for a few months? Thought a read something about it causing the truck to run wierd. I have an 06 btw.
