Gearhead vs. Free Spartan
I have a 2005 F250 Fx4 6.0, 4" diamond eye exhaust with cat delete, stock head bolts, stock egr still installed, and SCT with the free spartan tunes. I have been wanting to get Matt's tunes to replace the Spartan ones but i have a few questions.
1. Are Matt's tunes any better/more powerful that the free Spartans? 2. What type of fuel mileage should i expect with his tunes and my mods? (I was getting about 14 mpg in town before i put the exhaust on last weekend.) 3. Does Matt charge to have a tune updated? (In the future i plan to delete the egr and i would hate to pay for the same tunes twice.) 4. Does any one have any dyno results from his tunes? The dyno results on his website don't even show to make 400hp. Ive read that some people get a little over 400 with mods similar to mine. Can anyone explain? Sorry for all the questions. I just got this truck in mid august before school started and now im ready to spend a little more money on it. |

Forgot to mention that my truck is one of the few that do not have the MAF sensor so the CE light is on and it is driving me crazy. The truck still runs good though.

If you want to spend money on it go ahead and delete the EGR

It is $45 for a tune update. I was running the SRL from Matt and it felt like a completely different truck. It is a great tune and he is a great guy but is typically working a lot.

mods and times in sig, truck weighs 7040 pounds with my full toolbox and full tank of fuel, no dyno slip...but you cant fake a quarter mile time

Free tunes typically arent great, they are very generic... Kinda like the canned tunes from SCT. Custom tunes are definately the way to go. Most dyno numbers are at the wheels not engine HP. So that being said if its 400 at the wheels its prob close to 500HP engine. Kinda curious actually what the real HP drop is thru the drivetrain.

First time I ever raced at the track I ran a 14.1 at 93.3 mph with toolbox, tailgate up and didn't take my speakers out for a weight right around 7k. It was my first time racing but I'm sure I could hit a 13.9 like the reg cab above me. The srl is fast, light on smoke and definitely worth the money. When u get the tune written, just tell him to write it with the egr turned off and u won't have to update it when u delete it but for now it will be somewhat just turned off. I don't know. Just an idea.

I am running the SRL for a week now and it is amazing. This is my first tune ever in a completely stock 05 powerstroke and I still can not believe what a difference just a tune can make. My mpg around town has gone down 1 mpg but that might be because I had my tire revs set wrong at first so the shift points were screwed up. Power wise, if you want it it is there, the difference is night and day.
