egr delete - up pipe only?
Can i just install an up pipe and leave the cooler alone for an early 04? I just bought an sct tuner and am getting the extreme street tune for it soon and i dont wanna clog my egr cooler.

why would you need to? You can get a DICADSOLUTIONS complete delete for 135 bucks shipped off ebay-comes with up-pipe and everything, all stainless! Fit is wonderful as well!
But, I suppose you COULD just do an up-pipe that doesn't connect to the cooler, but you'd have to block the cooler off as well. That's a terrible way to do it however. |

yeah, i know there are great deals on ebay, but either way its just too much work for me to do a complete delete, and doing the up pipe only would be great if its possible..

The hardest part is the up-pipe... it's a PITA to get to that thing and get the new one installed. Don't waste your time on just doing the up pipe cause you have to block off the cooler anyway... Buy a kit.. Do it right and you will save yourself down the road... Just my opinion...

i thought you can get through by taking off the passenger side wheel and fender well?

if your truck is an 04 like mine is it an 03 build like mine? If so it has the round egr cooler and I wouldnt worry about it......Its the late model egr coolers(square) that seem to have the problems

8/03 build.. im not sure which cooler but ive never had any egr or headgasket or oil cooler problems but thats cause its on the factory tune and im concerned because i just ordered an sct tuner and dont want to clog the cooler up instantly from the extra fueling. i do every now and then full throttle it to "clear it out"

I don't understand-why are you so against deleting it properly? removing the up-pipe is the hardest part of the delete. Once you remove that, Eliminating the cooler takes less than 5 minutes, and re-assembly is a breeze. If you want to eliminate any issues, do it right the first time.

OK, I am not so sure you are looking at this from the right direction. You haven’t had any EGR & oil cooler or Head Gasket problems because you are either lucky or do great preventive maintenance on your truck. You will not clog your EGR cooler from extra fueling and if you do so what, instant EGR block off. EGR cooler and Oil cooler failure go hand in hand, this is a cooling system problem not a fuel system problem. Yes, as others said the up pipe is the hard part of an EGR delete. I welded both ends of my EGR cooler closed and reinstalled it ,no worries. Last edited by HAM_RADIO_MAN; 12-10-2011 at 06:27 PM. |

guess i was wrong. and you say i am lucky? does this engine have to have a problem for it to be normal? and now that i see it my truck will probably never be deleted it already has 228,800 miles as of today
