decision time...
Hey Guys,
Looking to get a tuner for my truck... got a 2005 6.0 with a 4in mbrp exhaust, EGR delete and new oil cooler..... should I get a Edge CTS Evolution or a Edge CS insight and SCT tuner? I don't have studs yet and am living on a college budget... is it safe if I get a SCT tuner to run it with no extreme tunes until summer and do the studs then? I don't do much driving here at school, probably only 5k from now until spring... any suggestions feed back on either? Thanks! |

Man if I had a dollar for everytime a thread like this came up. Get a SCT tuner with a custom tune written for your non-studded truck and an Edge CTS. This is an expensive step but worthwhile IMO. You really need the CTS to monitor your new EOT and ECT so you can track that delta. If you havent already you need to switch out the ford gold coolant and get some good ELC as well as a coolant filter then you should be good to go for awhile. Hope this helps.

I'm running a race tune and can't get the heads to go. Lol. But I run matt's srl tune and he has a very good record with stock head studs

I know this won't be very popular, but you could get a livewire and have both. I does not monitor icp pressure or voltage, or ficm voltage. but it will do egt, ect, eot, tranny, boost, and a few other things. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but it will do the job. If you can eat ramen for a while, get the x3/cts combo with gearhead automotive's tuning. It works great and you won't blow the heads unless you drive like richard petty everywhere.

Yep its not popular so STFU DA!!! J/K man. Its not a bad option but IMO and knowing what I know now I would just eat the ramen noodles and save for the CTS. While it can monitor ICP and FICM voltages it can be expanded to monitor oil pressure and fuel pressure which NO other unit can do. Otherwise you have to get gauges for those parameters and when it is all said and done you will have more into the setup than if you started out with the CTS. JMO.

Do it right the first time, even if it takes longer. Edge insight CTS or CS and then the SCT X3 from Gearhead or Innovative. If I could do it over I would get the expandable EGT probe because at some point I'm going to want to see fuel pressure. Just another example of "I should have spent a little more to get what works the best". I seen a combo for $899 somewhere but came with a non-expandable EGT probe...if you can't afford both now just do the CTS

If you can't swing the X3 and a CS/CTS get a ScangaugeII. You will still need analog EGT, Fuel, and Oil Pressure. put you can add them as you can. Just an option. The ScangaugeII can be had for $160 or less.

His cheapest route would be to buy a used ScangaugeII and a used X-3/SF3 SCT, then throw in a used fuel psi and pyro gauge.

Dosent sct have a touch screen monitor that you can keep an eye on your egt's eot's ect.... And still get the three custom tunes of your choice.
