egt going crazy on start up

So I've noticed that when I start my truck up the egt has been peaking up at 2000 degrees. I don't understand how it could be correct, last night I noticed that my egt was at 1150 ish and when I flashed the brights it jumped up a hundred degrees- seems like an error to me but im looking for some input. Oh yeah my egt is hooked up to my cts insight-

I have the older Edge Insight with the EGT plugged into it also and never had a problem, i would call edge you have a problem with the unit.

Yep it sounds like a problem with the unit. There is nothing on the motor that could cause actual egts to reach those numbers without a load on the motor.

Check your EGT probe connections to make sure they are making good contact. Also, you can't shorten the wiring to the probe or it will give you incorrect readings.

You might want to also check your ground connections, I had a loose battery ground to the block and caused my analog gauge to bounce/flutter.
