Coolant Filter
I've been seeing that a lot of y'all run the Sinister Coolant Filter kit. Have any of you tried this one?
Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel Coolant Filter Kit Just was looking around and seeing what is out there. Anybody have a reason why one system is better than another? I'm going to add one on my truck if I can EVER get it out of the shop. Thanks y'all! Preston |

Should be just fine have seen several others run that system, however some have complained about the shutoff valves being large and ugly, but its your truck. I went with the sinister kit due to how it mounts and still leaves room for me to mount my by-pass oil system later. Really its up to you and how much you want to spend, seems like a good deal on the system since it comes with 3 filters. They are about $12 each at the parts store.

So is a system like this what more are going with? I've too been looking into getting the system:

Get the Sinister! Just be sure that when it arrives, you remove all of the fittings and re-insert them with Teflon tape after getting off all of that black goop.
Also, if/when you get it, you can do this little trick to prevent the hose from rubbing against the radiator hose. And it keeps it low and secured too. Drill 2 holes in the back of the fan shroud nameplate housing. Run 2 zipties through the holes and out the bottom of the namepalte housing and pull the coolant return hose from the filter till the clamps are free and clear of the radiator hose. Then zip that puppy tight and forget about it.

Thanks for the pics! I think I'll just go with the Sinister Kit- So many of you use it and it's a little bit cheaper I believe. Dumb question here though- Does the system filter the coolant before or after the oil cooler? Because i know that the oil cooler winds up acting as a filter sometimes.... Thanks y'all!!

If I could do it again, I would have built my own. Easy. For me, building my own is easier than reading someone elses directions.
