Programmer?!
I have a '05 F-250 6.0 crew cab, fx-4, leveled, stock wheels with 35'' tires. Right now it is stock, the only mod I will do for sure is exhaust but not much more after that. I hear on my year motor, I should get a programmer but I am not sure which one I should get or if I really need one. Also I see trucks with gauges on the driverside pillar, which gauges are they usually and are those necessary? Any help is MUCH appreciated!

get gauges either way, you need to see the health of your motor with or with out a tuner. i have a edge ect which is not on the pillar mine is mounted on the window like a gps and you can monitor more then 3 or 4 things you could with the gauges, but some like the style of gauges its just preference but you do need them, as far as tuner goes get a sct tuner with custom tunes. thats the only way to go with the 6.0 and a lot of others will same the same also.

I agree. Gauges are a must and SCT is the only way to go for tuning.

Thanks guys! Stroker007, I see you have HID's installed. On your fog lights, are they H10? I would like them but can't confirm their number. Also, do the headlights and fog lights need seperate relay harnesses?

Our top sellers for the 6.0L Ford are the SCT Tuner and Edge Insight CS or CTS for the gauges. You cant beat the SCT tuning and the Edge Insight units do a great job at monitoring all the engines vitals. If you get one, dont forget to get a pyro probe so you can monitor EGTs. i think they were 9006 bulbs but not positive i pu them in a long time ago. i got mine from onex hid a while back.

I heard the way to go when it comes to tuners is... H&S???? Is this true?? Whats everyone's opinion on them? I heard they have safety features that won't let you destroy your transmission or engine???

First thing is gauges. They are a requirement on the 6.0, not an option. Once you have determined that your motor is healthy, then tuning is an option. Edge Insight is the best option for monitoring, but a cheaper solution is the Scangauge or pillar gauges. As long as they monitor ECT and EOT. Fuel Pressure and Pyro are the next priority.
As far as tuning SCT with custom tunes is the only way to go. Any tuner that tunes on the fly = trouble. |
