Buying an SCT, what do you guys think?

I found a used sct and being a nube I just wanted to get some opinions.

USED ON A 2006 POWERSTROKE
Serial Number XP0**********
FW VERSION 1.2.118
TUNE VERSION XP 1.2.5
UNLOCKS LEFT = 5
DEVICE UNMARRIED
3 custom tunes from Eric at Innovative Diesel.
Economy
Extreme Street
Extreme Race
I will take 225 for it. Let me know if your interested.

I will be using it on my 05. It seems to be a good deal to me. What do you guys think? I'm going to buy it after work today. Thanks all

You take a chance of "locking out" your truck when you mix/match strategies.

Here is some info for you, I SUGGEST YOU READ THEM BOTH CAREFULLY!!!

What to look for when buying used SCT for 6.0

I'm a little confused(whats new). If I buy it I can only get custom tunes, correct. How much are tunes? (ballpark) If I just hook it up to my truck I stand the chance of locking my truck up, correct. Does it seem like a good deal at $225. being only a year old or should I buy a new one? Thanks for your help.

The first two letters of the device tells me it's a newer style X-3, which means it only holds 3 custom tunes at a time.

Depending on who you get tunes from, they range from $50 for a single tune to $165 for 3 tunes (prices vary per tune writer).

Yes you take a chance using someone else tunes. His tunes were written for his strategy (PCM) and mods. If he has a older strategy, it might not work on yours with a newer strategy and vise versa.

The price isn't bad, worst case is $225 for the X-3 and $165 for 3 of Innovative diesels tunes= $390. I just used Innovative as an example because his tunes are the most expensive.

Now that you have this knowledge, you can tell the guy that the tunes might not work in your truck and he needs to lower his price.

Call IDP and get tunes 165 for any three. They will give you details. I wouldn't try mixing strategies especially with it being so easy to get tunes took Eric at IDP 2 hours and I had my tunes $225 isn't bad.

I bought it. I'm going to go with Matts tunes. Price is right and every one seems to like them. I have a banks six gun with a speed shooter on it now that came with it and I hate it. It has good power but it shifts like crap. Hopefully I can sell it and get some of what I paid for the SCT back. Thanks for your help guys, if I wouldn't have posted this I would have just hooked it up and most likely locked up my truck.
