Need a little bit of advice.

I have a 03' 6.0 F-250 4X4. Really want to get a programer of some kind but am a little scared because of the horrer stories Iv heard about stuff happening after you up the HP. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If your motor has a weak spot, upping the HP will stress those weak spots more than stock tunes will. Nevertheless, the best thing you can do whether up the HP or not is to get a monitoring device that displays the various parameters of your engine so you can know how modifying anything affects your motor and if something breaks you will have an idea or even know where to start.

edge insight cs/cts or sct x3 are the popular choices around here. the x3, i believe, can tune your truck (and is the best choice of tuning for your transmission). don't get sold on that bully dog crap!

Well you could use gauges but a monitoring device like the Edge CTS, CS, or ScanGauge II displays more parameters at one time than you have space for gauges and is much cheaper and way easier to install than individual gauges. The most important parameters to monitor are Engine Oil Temperature, Engine Coolant Temperature, EGTs, Fuel Pressure, and Injection control pressure.

yep everything except fuel pressure I think. I havent been able to find this mythical fp adapter for the edge that some folks have been talking aboujt.

also i dont think you can have custom tunes on the evolution. these custom tunes are made specifically for your truck which is very good for the 6.0

You do not want the Evolution for tunes. Get an Insight CS or CTS. If they are too rich for your wallet get a ScangaugeII. Then get an SCT X3 for your tunes. If you can't afford to do both at the same time get the monitor first. It is a reall bummer when your truck is sitting because you blew your wad on toys and didn't know it was getting ready to go on you because you didn't by the monitor. A GOOD monitor for the 6.0 is not an option. It is a requirement and the best mod money you can spend on your truck. Be smart and learn from those that know.
