Exclamation down pipe removal

just ordered a 4 inch straight pipe set up for my psd 06 4x4 250 S/D And I was checking out the stock set up. Is there any tricks to removing the stock down pipe with out the heat wrench, want to keep stock crap for any warranty issues that may arise do you have to take trans cross member off? Looks like some one at the assembly line had a worn socket all the bolt heads look rounded.:

what do you mean by "heat wrench"? and i'm pretty sure the cross member can stay in but you have to cut the down pipe to get it out. on a 7.3 any way. and that rounded bolt is probably some one at the dealer down some thing.

the clamp on the turbo can be a pain, but if you can get a hold of some PB blaster brand penitrating oil, i can make it pretty simple for ya. get the motor warm, shut it off and loosen the clamp. once you have the nut off the clamp and the drawbar that the nut goes on......spray it with the PB blaster untill the clamp popps free....and it will literally popp free........sometimes a larger screwdriver can help also. as far as removing it, there is no way to remove it in one piece without pulling the trans crossmember, but its not too bad to do that if you have a floor jack and maybe a jack stand to support the trans or t case with......Marc

sawzall works everytime, unless you want to move the trans cross member like machn recomended, but as far as the dealer goes i've installed banks, and mbrp on a bunch of these diesels and never had waranty issues. but as far as programmers and such go just take them out and set the ecm back to the factory settings so they don't screw anything up when pulling codes or to give them a reason to hastle you with warranty issues. but you will find dealers don't turn down free money from ford as long as it is not a major problem, and find yourself a good service writer at your local ford dealership and get to know him or her well, this will help you out down the road, customers tend not to compain to much when ford is cutting the check for the work and these service writers know that makes their life easier.

Talking

Thanks for all the info. have been really busy trying to make money to pay for this new habbit. just got the exhaust today, major shipping error. I will talk to my service writer about the whole exhaust with out a cat before I tear into this thing . looks like that tranny mount could be a little work. NO HILL FOR A CLIMBER. If I get the OK from the dealer on no cat .out comes the saw. anyway every one has been a great help thanks again.

Just finished getting my 4 inch pipes on (straights) I left the stock down pipe on and bolted the new setup on with a cat delete pipe took about an hour and a half only had to cut 8.5 inchs off one pipe to make up for the down pipe length. Anyway, kick gas , sounds great. definate difference in accelleration. My goal was fuel mileage increase, but that aint gonna happen sounds to good to putt around . cant wait to get a tuner FLOOR IT!!!
