Anyway to make stock airbox flow better? Scared of aftermarket units?
Are there any mods that help the factory airbox perform better? I know aftermarket ones like air raid are supposed to flow better but frankly i am scared to use them for fear of dusting my engine. I have bought two trucks over the years to resell that have had bad engines due to dusting and both were directly caused by the after market wash and reuse air filter systems. One was a K&n FIPK system and i dont recall what the other was.
Anyhow i would like to improve the airbox but i do not want to do it at the possible cost of an engine down the road. I do know that diesel world did a test with the air raid system and it increased mileage by .6 mpg. Thanks |

The mpg gains are bogus, I am with Caryt keep what you got. It holds an unbelievable amount of dirt before it needs to be changed.

As already stated, the stock air box will not signficantly improve air flow and you will not see any mpg gains.

Yep. Leave it alone. Keep your money for fuel. Or beer.

Want more flow in? How about a bigger hole? Intake air temps will not be higher than OAT while driving over 15MPH. During stop-n-go they may rise over OAT but it doesn't have any ill effects. I use this with the ZOODAD mod.
